چکیده

Thin metal fiIrns (Cu, Au, Ni) on quartz glass were illuminated with nanosecond pulse.; of a frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser (A = 532 nm). The transient reflectivity behavlour was probed at the wavelength 633 nm, where these metals exhibit Drude-Iike optical behaviour: the reflectivity decreases with temperature in the solid and in the Iiquid state as well as at the solid-llquid phase transition. It is shown that nanosecond time-resolved reflectivity measurements can lx used to d e t e m n e the melting of these metal surfaces due to the reflectivity d~fference between the solid and the liquid phase.

Nanostructuring of thin films by ns pulsed laser interference

We show that nanosecond pulsed laser interference can be used to structure surfaces on a nanoscale. With this method, we are able to create hollow structures on various thin films like Ta, Ni, Au, Cu, Co, and NiTi. We find that the structuring mechanism is related to the mechanical effect of thermal expansion upon melting. To corroborate this model, we study materials with an abnormal behavior ...

Nanosecond-time-resolution thermal emission measurement during pulsed excimer-laser interaction with materials

A nanosecond-time-resolution pyrometer has been developed for measuring the transient surface temperature of a solid material heated by pulsed excimer-laser irradiation. Fast germanium diodes are employed to capture the transient thermal emission signals in the wavelength range between 1.2 and 1.6 lm. The surface temperature is derived from the measured spectral thermal emission. The directiona...

Dynamics of the solidification of laser-annealed Si thin films

Nanosccond time-resolved reflectivity and transmis~ion measurements are uscd for the observation of solidification phenomena, following incornpletc or complete rneltrng of thin Si films ( d = 125 nm) by nanosecond laser pulses. Solidification is observed to proceed at the liquid-solid interface as Tong as the film is not melted completely. OR complete melting of the film, nucleation in the liqu...

Size Distribution Measurement of Candle\'s Soot Nanoparticles by Using Time Resolved Laser Induced Incandescence

Time resolved laser induced incandescence (LII) technique is used to measure size distribution of soot nanoparticles of candle's flame. Pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used to heat nanoparticles to incandescence temperature and the resulting signal is measured. Mass and energy balance equations are numerically solved to calculate temperature of soot particles in low fluence regime. Assuming Plank black ...

Delayed melting at the substrate interface of amorphous Ge films partially melted with nanosecond laser pulses

The dynamics of melting-rapid solidification of amorphous Ge films on transparent substrates upon irradiation with nanosecond laser pulses has been analyzed by means of real time reflectivity measurements performed both at the air-film and film-substrate interfaces. The effect of the heat flow conditions on the rapid solidification process has been studied by comparing the behavior of films wit...
